Stay & Explore Kingston / 1000 Islands for a week Sample Itinerary
Day 1 - Get to know Historic Kingston
Take the Kingston Confederation Trolley Tour and let trained guides take you on an exploration of Kingston's historic past. We highly recommend the hop off/on Trolley feature at both Fort Henry and the Bellevue House National Historic Site of Canada, home of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first Prime Minister. You will more than likely want to spend several hours exploring Fort Henry and the Bellevue House so one option is to have lunch at The Soldier's Canteen during your Fort Henry visit. Trolley tours run regularly from mid May through Thanksgiving, rain or shine and depart from the Tourist Information Centre opposite City Hall. If you still have some energy left, take a short tour of City Hall. If you are hungry or thirsty, you might want to enjoy the weather at one of the many outdoor patio restaurants. They all also have inside seating: Curry Orginal, Olivea, Casa Domenico, Chez Piggy, Le Chien Noir, The Tango, AquaTerra, The Keg, Old Speckled Hen, Tir Nan Og, The Kingston Brewing Company, The River Mill, Woodenheads, The Pilot House, The Lone Star / Margarittaville, Frankie Pesto's, Zappas Bar & Grill etc.

Day 2 and 4 - Explore Kingston's Museums and Art Galleries
Kingston is Canada's museum capital with something for everyone at its 22 museums and historic sites and 3 art galleries. If you want to visit all of these you may need an extra day or two actually. "The past is always present in Kingston". A few of the must sees include: MacLachlan Woodworking Museum, Military Communications and Electronics Museum, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Canada's Penitentiary Museum, Marine Museum of the Great Lakes, Princess of Wales' Own Regiment Military Museum, Pump House Steam Museum, Museum of Health Care at Kingston and Kingston General Hospital Walking Tour.

Day 3 - Explore Wolfe Island and relax at Big Sandy Bay
Take the free ferry to Wolfe Island (runs every hour) with your car so you can visit the 86 Wind Turbine centre and take a relaxing walk or read a book on the beautiful beaches on Big Sandy Bay. When you get hungry or thirsty, you can relax and enjoy casual fine dining at either the General Wolfe Hotel or Brown's Bay Inn or have a burger, sandwich or salad on The Island Grill's waterfront patio during the summer. There are also a number of artisans in the village of Marysville you won't want to miss experiencing during your visit to Wolfe Island. If you prefer to travel by bicyle, Wolfe Island is a wonderful place as you can cycle along the shore of Lake Ontario, through serene pastoral landscapes with great birding opportunities.

Day 5 - Explore the World Famous 1000 Islands by land and by water
Drive along the serene and beautiful 1000 Islands Parkway from Gananoque to Rockport, then return to Kingston to experience either a 3 hour lunch cruise or a 3 hour sunset dinner cruise through the 1000 Islands.

Day 6 - Take a break and either relax or recharge yourself for the day - Enjoy the beauty and relaxation at Sandbanks Provincial Park or Frontenac Provincial Park.
If you love to read in a chair on the beach and take a dip in the refreshing water, then Sandbanks will be an ideal way to relax for a day. If you like to either hike or bike through nature or rent a canoe or kayak, then Frontenac Provincial Park will be a perfect way for you to recharge for the day.

Day 7 - Wander through Kingston's History and Architecture on your own or on a Guided Tour
What better way to conclude your week long adventure to historic Kingston than to follow several of the pre-planed Kingston walking tours. Choose between the "Sir John A. Macdonald's Footsteps" tour, or Earl Street, King Street, Princess Street, Wellington Street, the Power Buildings or the Naval Sites walking tours. Before you leave Kingston be sure to enjoy the free tour of Kingston's City Hall as well as the eight-km waterfront pathway walk. Copies of these specific tours are available at the Kingston Tourist Information Office.
You may also want to spend some time exploring why Kingston is here and what made us. This 1.2km guided walking tour will aquaint you with Kingston's beginnings, its fortifications, and the powerful influence of the refugees from the American Revolution, their homes, their ideas and their impact on the structure of Canada. Tickets may be purchased at the Tourist Information Centre or from the guide 15 minutes prior to the walk. From 16 June to 5 September there is a walk at 10am and 2pm daily starting at the Tourist Information Centre. For more information call 613-545-WALK (9255) or visit Kingston Walks
